The Adventure Bride’s Guide to Transporting Desserts to your Elopement Location

Hey Adventure Brides!

Today I’m covering the topic of bringing desserts along on your adventure elopement! This has been a question I get asked almost every time I am on a Discovery Call with an inquiring couple about adventure style elopement ceremonies. “What if we want to bring some cake?” or “I wish there was a way to bring some cake.” Well, there is!

As your adventure elopement photographer and planner extraordinaire, I come armed and ready with options and solutions for your sugar cravings on the trail ;)

  1. Insulated Dish Carriers

While this option is a bit inconvenient depending on where you’re hiking, it IS an option. There are backpack style food carriers that are designed for camping trips and could potentially hold a cake that is well wrapped. I’d recommend a naked cake for this option perhaps so that the frosting doesn’t get ruined.

There are also large salad bowl style carriers that can be useful for smaller cakes and are very well insulated for the trail.

As seen in the photo, this is an example of a modest layered cake that my elopement photography team transported through Fort Pickens National Park in Pensacola, FL for an adventure vow renewal! As the floral designer for my couples, I was able to put aside some flowers for the cake (already cut down to size) that coordinated with the bride’s bouquet. It was decorated on site by one of our assistants for the day, and the couple couldn’t have been happier with their red velvet goodness!

2. Small Cakes/Cake Pops

An alternative to bringing along a large dessert would be to bring along some small fun ones. Pinterest is an amazing tool, and I’ve come across some pretty cute ideas for things like adventure/travel themed cake pop, trail mix pops, etc. for the couple looking to DIY their elopement sweets.

As your go-to on all things adventure wedding, I offer help with vendor recommendations as part of my built-in services upon booking me for your elopement. If my couple is looking for someone local to their area to prepare their dessert, I can 100% help you find the perfect vendor closest to your elopement location!

3. Non-Cake Travel-Friendly Alternatives

Let’s face it. Hiking with an entire cake, while sometimes doable, is oftentimes just downright inconvenient. If you’re wanting something sweet to take pictures with, there are several other travel-friendly alternatives that couples often opt to bring over cake.

Cookies, cheesecake bites, mini doughnut stacks, and mini bundt cakes are all fun and yummy alternatives to cake that are much easy to transport to a remote location and often do not require refrigeration.

4. Secondary Dessert-Friendly Location

If you want to still have the towering, million-tier cake experience in addition to your adventure elopement, believe it or not we can make that happen too!

While we would not hike with a huge cake, we can always arrange to take your cake photos in a separate, easy-to-reach location where setting up something more elaborate will be easier and less likely to end in a pile of sugar bread.

5. You Do You!

Ultimately, DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY for your elopement. If you want to pack along a king-sized stack of pancakes and ceremoniously pour syrup all over it once you reach your destination, then I will be right there to photograph the entire event!

If there is a dessert that you really just love and want to have as part of your day, we will make it happen!

Your intimate elopement ceremony is about YOU, and you should never feel bad about speaking up for what you want!

If you have any questions, my DMs are always open! If you’d like to book a Discovery Call to see if we’re a good fit for your adventure wedding, please feel free to email me at carlie.maggart.kim@dyetheknotweddings.com for a consultation!

That’s all for today guys, and I hope this was able to give you some good ideas as well as some encouragement during your adventure wedding planning process!

-Carlie
