The Adventure Bride’s Guide to Choosing Your Elopement Dress

Hey Adventure Brides!

My apologies for not being as active lately, but with wedding season in FULL SWING, it’s been a challenge finding time to post! Little life update, I will be accepting a nursing assignment to the midwestern state of Nebraska this month! I can’t wait to show all of you how beautiful that state is, and bring to light some cool elopement locations that are both affordable and accessible. So stay tuned for that blog post coming soon!

Today’s topic is how to choose your elopement dress! Choosing your elopement gown can be a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be!

As your go-to adventure elopement photographer and planner, I am always here to give my input on your decision, but here are a few things to consider:

1. Season & Location
Where are you going and when? This can help give a start to your decision making as far as warmth needed for northern locations vs. tropical locations where less is more. If you’re working with a designer (like our amazing Stephanie who is on staff here at Dye the Knot), this information will definitely be helpful as they design the perfect gown for your day!

2. Activity
What will you be doing on your adventure location, and how hard is it to get there?

If you’re taking a short and easy trek then by all means buy that ballgown wedding dress you’ve always wanted! But if you’re planning on climbing a mountain or taking a more difficult hike, then I’d recommend a lighter and thinner material for your journey! The last thing you want is to be so weighted down on your day that your hike no longer becomes enjoyable. If you’re going to hike in your dress, be sure that it is comfortable and breathable.

3. Consider outfit changes
Some couples opt to do their classy and breathtaking landscape photos then use sunset and blue hour to change into something a bit more revealing for a boudoir or spicy shoot afterward! (These two shoots can also be done on different days, but is often rolled into one. Totally up to you!)

Side note: when you book an adventure elopement or destination wedding with us over a certain amount, we often will gift a complimentary honeymoon or spicy shoot to the couple as a thank you!

4. Personal preference
This is YOUR day! So if you have a dress that you’ve always dreamed of wearing but it isn’t suitable for the long hike you’re also dreaming of, we can work with that!! There are several ways we can pack your dress so that you can change on site when we end our hike! My favorite part of being an elopement photographer is getting to tell people “yes” and then making their wildest plans and ideas a reality. So we WILL find a way to get you into the outfit/outfits you want.

5. Personal style
Your dress should be a reflection of you!! Be as brightly colored or as toned and muted as you want!
At our company we offer services such as dress design so that brides get 100% what they want at an affordable price, and we also offer DYEING services for those brides that are just dying to show a pop of color instead of dress in traditional white!
We also offer multiple lines of accessories to fit whatever location and style preferences you have including bridal shawls, wraps, barefooted sandals, and scarves.

Whatever your personal touch is, don’t be afraid to add it in on your wedding day!

6. Have fun and enjoy your photos!
Either way, your day will be SO much fun and an absolutely unforgettable experience, so slooowwwww down and enjoy the ride. After all, as Miley Cyrus reminds us, it’s all about the climb (and the amazing photos that we will take along the way)!

That’s all for now. As always, feel free to find me on Instagram or facebook and message with any questions or comments. Past adventure brides, what did you wear to your adventure wedding or elopement? I’d love to know!
