The Adventure Bride’s Guide to Writing your Own Elopement Vows

Hey Adventure Brides!

I was MIA for a couple weeks due to an emergency surgery, but I’m back in full force, catching up on emails and inquiries and yes, blog posts! This week I thought we would pick up with the fun but helpful topic of vows!

Your wedding vows are a deeply personal expression of your love and commitment to each other, and for adventurous couples, crafting your own vows can be an opportunity to infuse your ceremony with even more meaning and adventure. In this step-by-step guide, I'll walk you through the process of writing your own adventure wedding vows, from brainstorming ideas to putting pen to paper and sharing your heartfelt words with your partner on your special day.

Step 1: Reflect on Your Relationship and Shared Adventures

Before you start writing your vows, take some time to reflect on your relationship and the adventures you've shared together. Think about the moments that have brought you closer, the challenges you've overcome, and the dreams you've pursued together. These experiences will serve as inspiration for your vows and help you capture the unique essence of your relationship. You can even include inside jokes or your favorite movie references…the more personalized and unique the better! This is a great way to help relieve some tension on your day and have a good laugh with your significant other and whoever may be in attendance.

Step 2: Brainstorm Ideas and Themes

Once you've reflected on your relationship, begin brainstorming ideas and themes for your vows. Consider the qualities you admire most in your partner, the promises you want to make to each other, and the adventures you hope to embark on together in the future. Whether you're inspired by nature, travel, or shared hobbies, let your imagination run wild as you explore different ideas for your vows.

Step 3: Write from the Heart

When it comes to writing your vows, authenticity is key. Write from the heart and speak from your own experiences and emotions. Don't worry about trying to impress anyone or sounding overly poetic – simply focus on expressing your love and commitment in your own unique voice. You can start by jotting down your thoughts and feelings in a rough draft, and then refine and edit your vows until they feel just right.

Step 4: Incorporate Personalized Promises and Adventures

One of the advantages of writing your own vows is the opportunity to make personalized promises to your partner and incorporate your shared adventures into your ceremony. Whether you're promising to always support each other's dreams, embark on new adventures together, or laugh in the face of challenges, make sure your vows reflect your unique relationship and the adventures you hope to share in the years to come.

Step 5: Practice, Practice, Practice - if you want to!

Once you've written your vows, it's important to practice reciting them aloud. This will not only help you feel more confident and comfortable delivering your vows on your wedding day, but it will also give you a chance to fine-tune your delivery and make any final adjustments to your wording. Consider practicing in front of a mirror, with a trusted friend or family member, or even recording yourself to listen back and make notes if you’re nervous about everything being perfect. If you are having an adventure elopement and will not have anyone in attendance, there is no need to worry yourself over being perfect. The sweet imperfections are what makes your day perfect, after all.

You can always consider saving your super personal or intimate vows for JUST your partner by having a time set aside for private vows. Your photographer will capture you at a respectful distance as you share these special moments with your love and ONLY your love.

Step 6: Share Your Vows with Your Partner

Finally, on your wedding day, take a deep breath and share your adventure wedding vows with your partner. Whether you're exchanging vows in an intimate mountain ceremony, a rustic barn wedding, or a sandy beach elopement, let your words ring true as you express your love, commitment, and excitement for the adventures that lie ahead.

Writing your own adventure wedding vows is a meaningful and rewarding process that allows you to express your love and commitment in a deeply personal way. By reflecting on your relationship, brainstorming ideas, writing from the heart, incorporating personalized promises and adventures, practicing your delivery, and ultimately sharing your vows with your partner on your wedding day, you'll create a truly unforgettable and adventure-filled ceremony that celebrates your unique love story.

There are many ways to save these lovely vows, which I will be covering in a future blog post, so make you keep your eye out for that one!

Till next week!

-Carlie
